Thomas Tipton Van Schoick II, 56 of Greeley, passed away on September 6, 2019 in Greeley Colorado. He was born in Sacramento, California on December 19th, 1962 to Elmer Tipton and Shirlie Mae Van Schoick.
Tom received his B.M.E. from the University of Montana and a M.M. from the University of Northern Colorado. He was the principal percussionist with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra for 30 years and performed with the Fort Collins Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, Larimer Chorale and Synesthesia Chamber Music.
Tom played and recorded with jazz pianist Marc Sabatella. He toured and performed in Havana with Caribbean Music and Dance, indulging his passion for folkloric and Afro-Cuban music. He also toured as a sponsor with Greeley Central High School choir, band, and orchestra to Ireland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Paris. In addition to his studio teaching and lecturing at UCD, he taught privately, and performed regularly in classical, jazz, rock, pop and folkloric genres. Most recently Tom enjoyed performing with the variety band Groove ‘N Motion.
Tom is survived by sister Kristina Engen, nephews Jeff and Craig Engen, grandniece Holly Engen and grandnephew Ezra Engen and sister Amy Nicholls , nephews Jordan, Trevor and Samuel Nicholls and niece Stephanie Nicholls.
Life Celebration gathering will be held from 5-8 pm, Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue In Greeley, Colorado. The Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra will recognize Tom, Principal Percussionist from 1989-2019 at their season opener on Friday September 27th at 7:30 pm at the Union Colony Civic Center. Please join us as we celebrate Tom’s life and dedication to music.
