Obituary

John Ellis Adams, 89, of Greeley passed away October 20, 2019. He was born April 23, 1930 in Greeley to Lester and Bertha (Balch) Adams. John attended grade school in Pleasant Valley and Bracewell and graduated from College High, now University HS, in 1948.

He farmed with his father in the Pleasant Valley area where they had a dairy of registered Guernsey cows. He also raised Golden Pheasants.

In 1950, John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served 13 months in Korea with the 1st Marine Division. He received his honorable discharge in 1953. He was a member of the American Legion.

On January 28, 1956 he married Neva Anderson of Greeley. They had two daughters, Jill and Jo Anna.

From 1962-65, John served on the Vail Ski Patrol. After moving back to Greeley, he was employed by Monfort Feed Lots and retired in 2000 after 34 years as a welder and steel fabricator. He was a hard worker and took pride in what he did. After retirement, he enjoyed getting together with the Monfort guys at monthly breakfasts.
John enjoyed creating items from wrought iron in his shop and gave them to friends and neighbors. He also loved flowers and had a beautiful rose garden.

He was a charter member of the Seeley Lake Boat Club and spent many hours water skiing and flying a water ski kite behind the boat, 500-1000 feet above the water. He also entered many water ski tournaments.

John liked blue grass music and watching TV Westerns and the History Channel. He was an avid reader of books and magazines. He enjoyed telling and hearing good jokes.

Thankful to have share his life include his wife, Neva; daughter, Jill (Mark) Johnson and daughter, Jo Anna Adams all of Greeley; two grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Eric Lee (Valerie) Johnson and their son, Eliot of Centennial and Amy Jo Johnson of Staten Island, NY; brother-in-law, Dale Anderson of Henderson, NV; many cousins and special friends, including the Hungenberg family and Bruce Schweers.
