Betty Geraldine Childers Jones 90, of Greeley, passed away December 8, 2019 in Loveland.
She was born in Topeka, KS to Roy and Margaret (Wood) Childers, on March 22, 1929, in her Aunt May’s home.
Ms Jones grew up and graduated from high school in 1947 in Junction City, KS. She attended college at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and University of Wyoming in Laramie. At the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley she earned her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Education and a master’s degree in Gerontology. Betty showed the same determination, intelligence and caring in earning her degrees, as she did as a homemaker, schoolteacher and an active volunteer.

She married Willard Gomer Jones on August 21, 1949, in the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City, KS. She was an inspiring, loving and proud parent to her children: David Kent Jones (Patricia Brown), Greeley, CO; Matthew Kevin Jones (Shari Heinlein), Louisville, CO; and Margaret Elizabeth Jones (Ruediger Borstel), Langenfeld, Gernmany. She had a granddaughter, Jessica Francis Jones, Denver, CO.

Ms Jones was a charter member of the Family of Christ Presbyterian Church in Greeley, serving two terms on its leadership Session. After earning her gerontology master’s degree, Ms Jones was an active volunteer in senior citizen’s issues. She served as president of Greeley’s AARP chapter, eight years on the Governor’s Commission on Aging, and eight years on Colorado’s AARP advisory board. She was one of the earliest members of the Greeley Assistance League. She was a former member of the Greeley Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party taking an active role throughout the years and served as a delegate to the Democratic County and State Conventions.

Betty Jones is survived by her children, their spouses and granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her husband Willard and her sister Beattie Cox.
Family services will be held at a later date.

Betty Jones was an exemplary member of our Family of Christ Presbyterian Church! She was a leader during the early years of our church development. My son recalls her strong commitment. I also pay tribute to how much she worked for senior citizens! Ila Leavy, Greeley, CO
