Charles “Chuck” Merrill Emerson Jr was born in Hot Springs County Wyoming on February 18, 1954 to Charles “Chuck” Emerson Sr and his wife Lois Emerson. When Chuck was still very young, work in the oilfield for his father brought the family to a small town called Reliance, Wyoming, just outside of Rock Springs. As a boy in Reliance, Chuck made many lifelong friends, and was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America, earning the highest scouting rank of Eagle. The family later moved into Rock Springs proper where Chuck attended highschool and was known for his wit, as well as for his work as an actor with the Drama Club and his membership in a traditional Native American dance troupe.

Chuck’s family and friends spent their youthful leisure time in a tiny mountain town called Atlantic City, Wyoming, where Chuck owned a cabin, and his sister Toni owned and ran a bar. Chuck worked in the oil field from the age of 14 until he retired.

In January of 1982, in Rozet, Wyoming, Chuck met Stephanie Karsky, and on December 31, 1983, they were married.

Following work, Chuck and Stephanie moved to Cuba, New Mexico. Their son, Charles, was born there in 1984. Shortly after, a fickle economy brought them back to Wyoming where Stephanie gave birth to their daughter, Margaret, in 1986. The traveling family finally settled down in Greeley, Colorado December of 1987 where Chuck eventually started his own oil and gas consulting business. He spent the subsequent years drilling and exploring all over America and even, for a time, overseas in Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea. He had many close friends in Wyoming, Colorado, and around the world.

During the course of a protracted fight against a grave illness, Chuck was graced to be the recipient of a liver donation June 2004 and a kidney transplant from his own daughter December 2010. Chuck’s family would like to recognize all of the countless doctors, nurses, medical case managers, and other hospital staff, particularly those at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, for the dignified and earnest help and care they provided Chuck through all these years.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Emerson, his daughter, Margaret Emerson, his son, Charles Emerson III, and his brother Michael Emerson.

The memories of Chuck "Uncle Slug" will warm my heart always. I am so lucky to have grown up with all of you, and with that I feel I am more than just a niece or cousin to you. I am so sorry for your loss, but there is a wonderful gain in heaven and to think of all the shenanigans he is pulling up there! Chris and I will miss his warm smile, cheerful laugh, and generous love that he gave both of us. The stories are countless and they all bring a smile to our face with some tears of sadness and tears of happiness. I have been telling everyone that there is not a story about Chuck that will not give you a chuckle, he was just that way. We love you all so very much and our condolences are with you all. May Chuck's memory live on through us all, he was a wondering man!

Chuck was a man I had to like from the moment I met him. He was just too engaging and intelligent to ignore. His wit was quick and his banter was provoking. I will always appreciate how welcomed he made me feel in his home. I send my sincere sympathy to the Emerson family for the loss of such a loved man. It was apparent that he loved life and his family. Please find peace in your sweet memories.
