Obituary

Dean Bayles, 97, of Julesburg, CO, formerly of Greeley, CO passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his Julesburg home. He was born in Briggsdale on November 23, 1923 to Fred Stephen and Ara Lucinda (Smith) Bayles.

Dean enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 14, 1942, beginning active duty on January 6, 1943. He married Edvina “Eddie” Irene Roth on March 3, 1945 in South Mills, NC while Dean was stationed at Norfolk Naval Air Base as an aircraft metal specialist. He was discharged December 13, 1945 they returned to Colorado, making their home in Greeley.

Dean worked for 19 years at Weld County Garage before opening Dean’s Body and Fender Shop in 1962, repairing and restoring automobiles until he sold the business in 1983.

An avid fisherman and hunter and boating enthusiast, Dean also enjoyed archery, fly tying, bowling leagues and his real love of refurbishing and renovating vintage automobiles. In his later years, he crafted replica model houses including his boyhood home, Roth family farm, Julesburg High School, Julesburg Railroad Station, family cabin at Crystal Lake, Lucy’s Café in Julesburg, various barns and farms around Julesburg, Pony Express Station in Gothenburg, NE, a garage for his great-grandson, Connar and the yet incomplete Bayles family home in Greeley, which he diligently worked to complete days before passing. This project is being lovingly completed by several family members.

Survivors include his daughters; Barbara Taylor of Loveland, Tamara Thode of Julesburg and son, Daryl Bayles of Julesburg, grandchildren; Brooke (Chris) Gibbs of Loveland, Billy Thode (Jodie Leonhardt) of Otis, Andy (Natasha) Thode of Julesburg, 14 great-grandchildren; Parker and Avery Gibbs, Brianna, Demi, Tegan, Cienna, Shianne and Jayson Thode, Madi and Zoie Krejewski-Stoll, Connar and Nolan Stoll, Gavin and Chloe Thode and his sister, Mary Kay Trujillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings; Fred Jr., Frances Schwab Liesinger, John, Jean Bennett and Vivienne Bayles.

Visitation 4-7 p.m. Friday at Adamson. Family graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, wearing masks and observing social distancing.

Dear Barb, Tammy and Daryl,
I'm so sorry for your loss. May your memories all be happy ones. And as to that, Barb, I remember the car he gave you, lavendar and white, I think. We took it out for a ride on the town. When you went around the corner, the door flew open and I was glad not to fly right out! He wasn't quite finished with it. Wish I could be there for you all. Sandy (Burk) Billings
