Obituary

Frieda Marie Hollis
4/21/1921 ~ 8/2/2020

Frieda Marie Hollis passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on early Sunday morning August 2, 2020. She was born near Dodge City, Kansas on April 21, 1921 to Clyde and Cora (Bowyer) Simmons. The family moved to Colorado when Frieda was very young. Frieda grew up with 3 siblings in Eads, Colorado. Her early school years were in a 1-room school house until high school where she attended and graduated from Eads High School in 1939. She married Leo Hollis on June 15, 1939 and went camping for their honeymoon. Frieda and Leo were married almost 57 years, until his death in 1996. Frieda was a homemaker and was known for making every meal of the day, every day of the week. She helped her husband on the farm and later was an electrician’s assistant when he worked in that industry. Summers were spent at the family cabin in the mountains where she completed her daily routines without running water or electricity. The meals were cooked on a wood stove and laundry was done with a wringer washing machine. Birthdays and holidays were always made special and though there was not a lot of money, she was able to stretch a dollar so her children always had everything they needed and more. She made sure her children were always in church and involved in Sunday School, VBS and many other programs.

Frieda sang solos and was involved in the music program as long as she could be. Following a stroke in 2002 Frieda’s voice was no longer what it had been and she missed being able to sing her favorite hymns as she’d done all her life. Frieda loved music and was soothed by having it on around her until the very end. Fried as an active member of the Evangelical United Brethren church in Eads. After the family moved to Greeley she was active in the Greeley EUB Church until its closure. At that time she became a member of the Greeley First Church of the Nazarene where she tried to greet as many people as she could every Sunday morning. She did her best to make everyone feel that they were welcome and loved.

Frieda is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Hollis, her parents and her 2 brothers, Paul Simmons and Glenn Simmons and sister Mildred Hainer. She is survived by her 5 children; Steve (Judy) Hollis of Missouri, Danny Hollis of Evans, Mark (Jan) Hollis of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Bonnie (Kevin) Burns of Greeley, and Kevin Hollis of Greeley. Frieda has 11 Grandchildren; Steve, Chris, Sherri, George, Tom, John, Alicia, Holly, Todd, Amber and Brittany. She has 24 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Pall bearers are Steve Hollis - grandson, George Hollis - grandson, Tom Hollis - grandson, Todd Burns – grandson, Ryan Hildreth – grandson-in-law.

Services will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, 2515 W 16th St, Greeley, CO 80634 on Thursday August 6, 2020 at 2:00pm with internment at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley at 3:00pm, with a reception back at the First Church of the Nazarene to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene. To leave condolences, please visit www.adamsoncares.com
