Obituary

Linda French, 70, of Evans, Colorado, passed away on September 2, 2020, after an unfortunate and relentless encounter with breast cancer.

Linda was born on September 19, 1949 in Sterling, Colorado, to Irene and George Barber. She graduated from Sterling High School and married John French in 1967; they divorced after 15 years of marriage. In time, their relationship evolved into a friendship that lasted through the years.

She was a mother of two sons and one daughter - John, Brian, and Cori. She rose to the challenge of single motherhood, and instilled strong values of self reliance, compassion, and empathy in her children. Being a mother was the absolute greatest joy of her life.

Linda was a phenomenal grandmother, and loved her eight grandchildren endlessly. There are likely several hundred people alive today who have seen pictures of and heard stories about the funny, ornery, and loving things Jonathan, Patrick, Jordan, Taylor, Shad, Jaren, Dillon, and Chloe have done!

Linda was very creative, and had an eye for finding and enhancing beauty in things around her - a $5 table from a yard sale in need of a fresh coat of paint, a group of weeds in the garden that “have flowers, so they can stay”, or in a fellow human who is unable to see their own inner beauty and needed a simple reminder of their worth.

She was very loyal and forgiving, and cherished the many long lasting friendships she made throughout her life. She had a knack for making fast friends with most everyone, and for showing gratitude to those that enriched her life. She had an effortless way of making those around her feel like they were the most important person in the room.

She loved retelling jokes, but rarely made it to the punch line before laughing too hard to get to said punchline. Her radiant smile could light up a room - her laugh was contagious.

Stripes or polka-dots with a matching purse and cute shoes were a must for most any outfit. Extra points if the outfit was from a thrift shop or yard sale. To heck with “if the shoe fits, wear it”; her motto was “if the shoe matches the outfit and the price is right, suck it up and wear them!”

She spent many long hours in her yard and garden - it was her happy place - and digging in the dirt was her therapy. She often said the best kind of tired is the kind you feel after sweating outside all day and making the yard beautiful and welcoming.

Linda lived her life with optimism, strength, and unending love for her family and friends. Her door was always open, and the coffee was always on.

She hung the stars and moon in her family’s sky, and the world is a more beautiful place for having had her in it.

The last leaf to fall from this branch of her family tree, Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and George Barber, sister Dee Knorr, and brother George Barber.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: John & Lezli French, Brian & Becky French, and Cori & Mike Lesser, her grandchildren: Jonathan Carter, Patrick Carter, Jordan French, Taylor French, Shad Lesser, Jaren Lesser, Dillon French, and Chloe French, and her fluffy cat, Oliver. Several nieces and nephews held a very special place in Linda’s heart.

A life celebration will be held Sunday, September 13th at 2:00pm at Adamson Life Celebration Home. Memorial gifts may be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Adamson, 2000 W. 47th Ave., Greeley, Colorado 80634. Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.

There are so many memories, painting, sharing in her great creative endeavers. All the creft shows, garage sales, and coffee chats. I will miss my friend. She was so proud of all her children and family, with good reason, she created a family full of love for life and each other. I will cherish all the wonderful memories.
