Mary Louise Spoonamore, 89, of Greeley, Colorado, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on October 18, 2020 at her residence.

Born December 21, 1930 in Oswego, Kansas, she lived the first 10 years of her life on the farm. She then moved with her mother to Washington D. C, where she completed her schooling at Roosevelt high school in 1948. Midway through her senior year, she met her husband, Leo Weaver. They were married July 2, 1949 in Bethany Baptist Church. Leo’s military career took them to North Dakota, North Carolina, Louisiana, Montana, Illinois, Cincinnati, Ohio and Bethesda, Maryland and then retired in Greeley, Colorado in 1998. Throughout their 72 years together, they raised six children and enjoyed spending any time they could with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those who knew Mary Lou, knew her to be a devoted servant of Jesus Christ, and a proud wife and mother. She was blessed with many talents. A masterful seamstress, she made anything she wanted. Wedding cakes and baking became her hobby and small business later in life. There are many of her needlepoint creations displayed and cherished within the family. Her love affair with music began as a young child. She was an accomplished piano player and singer, performing in musical theater productions as well as church choirs, Sweet Adeline’s and community choirs. It was a rare day not to hear her singing a favorite tune.

As an active member in the American Baptist Church, she served on countless committees and positions of leadership, including President of the Ohio American Baptist Women’s Assoc., and her training and service as a hospital chaplain. An eternal optimist, she relied on her faith for guidance. Her smile and energy had a warm effect people were drawn to.

She is survived by her husband, Leo Weaver of Greeley, Colorado, four sons; Steven Mark Weaver (Carol) of Monroe, Washington, Charles Everett Weaver of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Michael Ray Weaver (Monica) of Dallas, Texas and Daniel Cline Weaver (Carmel) of Craig, Alaska; two daughters, Lee Anne Butler and Allison Lynn Sedlacek (Roger) both of Greeley, Colorado; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles Wylie Spoonamore and Maude Elinor Spoonamore; one sister Betty Jane Hellwig; two brothers, Doyle Richard Spoonamore and Charles Edwin Spoonamore.

Often thought of as our own family saint, we are assured that Mary Lou is with God. Mary Lou, thou good and faithful servant.

A Life Celebration Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, November 6th, 2020 at Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley, CO. A reception will follow the service. The family asks that wearing of masks and social distancing be observed.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Alzheimer’s Association Greeley Chapter in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home.
