Obituary

Rodriguez family patriarch, Pedro Rodriguez Jr. of Evans Colorado, passed away in his 77th year Sunday April 25th, 2021.

Born June 27, 1943 in Natalia Texas, “Pete” worked at a very early age in various odd and difficult jobs before moving to Colorado and meeting Petra Ybarra. In 1960, Pete and Petra married in Greeley, where their life long marriage lasted 56 years and they were blessed with 5 children.

Though he worked hard to support his family Pete never complained. In fact, he used his position as a trash truck driver as a vehicle to serve and build relationships with people in the community. His dedication to helping and serving others is why so many people loved and befriended Pete.

Pete’s long hours on the job never kept him from devoting his time, treasure and talents to his children and later to his grandchildren. He was a Scout leader and boxing coach, the number one fan of all the kids’ sports, plays, concerts and activities. He used time at yard sales, car shows, McDonald’s and camping to build special relationships with his grand and great grandkids.

Those who knew Pete knew he was a master story teller and jokester. He loved to laugh and his easy going way drew many into his focused attention that made people feel cherished and important. Moreover, he was a humble man with a servant’s heart who fostered both children and homeless people.

He loved music, especially “oldies” and Tejano music. He could play the guitar and the accordion and his love for singing lasted until his dying breath.

Pete will be greatly missed by his surviving children; Fred Rodriguez and wife Staci, Ed Rodriguez and wife Joann, Frank Rodriquez and wife Christy, and his daughter Christine with husband Duane Rangel; siblings Teresa R. McNeill, Rachel Naranjo, Aurora Moreno, Rosa Naranjo, Janie Rodriguez, Jim Rodriguez, Bowdie Hernandez, Robert Rodriguez; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grand-children mourn his passing also.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Petra Rodriguez, his daughter Hopie Rodriguez, his mother Joaquina Rodriguez, Father Pedro Rodriguez Sr., his grand daughter Amy, grandson Alfred, and 5 siblings.

Visitation will be held 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, April 29 with Recitation of the Rosary 6 p.m. at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave. Greeley, CO 80634. Life Celebration is 11 a.m Friday, April 30 at Adamson followed by interment at Linn Grove Cemetery, 1700 Cedar Ave. Greeley, CO 80631

Your Daddy has always been part of Evans, my brother and I attended his boxing practices in the old Fire station. Between riding our bikes by your house, seeing them at Keever Grocery as kids. I actually ran into him at the pancake breakfast down at the City park a few years ago, Pete still remembered me. I will always remember his smile, kindness, the twinkle in his eye when would tell you a story, life was always beautiful through his eyes it seemed. God bless you and your family. My deepest Sympathy, Shauna Keever and Family
